Purpose: The Senior Manager, LMS & Instructional Design oversees administration and optimization of the Learning Management Systems for North America; this position creates, delivers and manages digital learning content ensuring alignment with talent development, learning and business strategy.
Essential Functions:
- Leads the configuration, administration, and operations of the company’s Learning Management Systems; monitors technological changes to the LMS and provides guidance to leverage new features, techniques, and technologies to ensure the systems are optimized and deliver a superior user experience
- Conducts LMS training sessions for end-users, instructors, and other administrators
- Ensures digital learning solutions are properly implemented within the LMS, maintaining high-quality standards to support team member performance
- Defines learning objectives and creates detailed storyboards and instructional design plans; designs and develops engaging and innovative e-learning courses and content using industry-standard authoring tools
- Manages the translation of e-learning content using effective translation technology tools
- Generates and analyzes reports to track learning progress and content effectiveness, providing insights for continuous improvement and ROI on learning investments
- Integrates video and graphic design elements to enhance user engagement and instructional clarity in digital learning solutions
- Develops interactive modules, quizzes, and assessments to reinforce learning outcomes and drive behavioral change in alignment with business KPIs
- Manages project timelines and ensures content aligns with stakeholder expectations
- Conducts quality assurance to identify and resolve content issues based on internal design standards
- Collaborates closely with subject matter experts and key stakeholders across the organization to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment with business objectives
- Stays ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in e-learning and instructional design, incorporating innovative approaches to enhance learning effectiveness
Reporting Relationship: The Senior Manager, LMS & Instructional Design reports to the Director of L&D and Talent Management
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must total at least 6 years:
- In a leadership role: Requires 3 years of experience directly and indirectly influencing decision making regarding design of Learning programs and content
- In a technical role: Requires 6 years of Learning & Development and Operations experience engaged in developing and delivering high impact Learning programs and managing Learning Management Systems
- A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 2 of the 3-year requirement
- An MBA or a master’s level degree in a program related to the functional area can count for an additional 2 years of 6-year requirement
In the industry: 3-5 years Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience of graphic and video design
- Prior experience in LMS administration required; experience with Familiarity with Axonify and/or Cornerstone a plus
Specialized Training:
- Training that leads to an in-depth understanding of Learning & Development and instructional design areas, particularly focused on learner experience and change adoption through habit formation
- Training and experience using learning authoring tools (Camtasia, Articulate Storyline and Rise, Elucidat, Canva, Vyond, PowerPoint, etc.)
Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits:
- Exceptional visual design skills
- Strong multi-faceted project management and organizational skills
- Strong skills in assessing, designing, and developing learning resources and pathways
- Requires proficiency in analyzing learning and statistical data and processes to evaluate and assess achievement toward L&D and talent management goals
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, translate complex concepts into clear messaging, and facilitate collaborative relationships across all levels of the organization
- Business acumen and the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of L&D and talent management planning required to advance the organizations goals
- Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population, and individual circumstances to create efficiencies, remove barriers and identify business solutions that will enhance manager effectiveness and contribute to better business outcomes
- Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading and influencing teams to achieve common goals
Location/Travel:
- This position may be based at the F&B Center of Excellence in Bethesda, MD or be remote and located near a major metropolitan airport within the North America region
- Requires travel at least 20% of the time for meetings and to visit branch locations
